Thank you for your interest in volunteering with DND Canine Rescue!

  A little about us: We began in 2008 as one concerned person who took note of the daily postings on Craigslist.  We hope that with your interest we can expand on that and save a lot more dogs and help with the pet overpopulation.

  We are looking for volunteers in every aspect of the rescue. If you have a particular strength or interest in any aspect please note it below. If a job description doesn't exactly match one you'd like to do let us know and we'll work with you to draw up a position that you would be happy with. If you do not volunteer or foster with us please help another rescue. If our management style does not work for you perhaps another one will. All volunteers are given a Volunteer Handbook.

Specific ways you can help:

    * Visit Shelters

    * Do home checks

    * Answer general questions via e-mail

    * Consult prospecitve adopters

    * Help a foster home

    * Transport a needy dog

    * Work at an adoption event (stores, faires, etc.)

    * Community Outreach

    * Fundraising

    * Mail out applications and literature

    * Photograph dogs

    * Hold a party (Avon, Tupperware, Pampered Chef,

       etc.) and donate proceeds to rescue.

    * And anything else you can think of!

Here are current coordinator positions that need to be filled:

 1) Intake Coordinator (IC) contacts those individuals who wish to place a dog into the Rescue program; obtains medical and behavioral history of the dog and reasons for giving up the dog; completes a Dog Intake form and assigns the dog a tag number; acts as liaison to Phoenix shelters and Humane Societies; places dogs in veterinary clinics for needed medical treatment; provides listing of available dogs to the Adoption Coordinator, the Foster Home Coordinator, and the Media Coordinator.

2)     Adoption Coordinator (AC) receives applications from person(s) wishing to adopt a dog the AC contacts those persons whose applications indicate they might be a good home and discusses the dogs currently available. An application form is completed by the AC.  A thorough interview of the applicant needs to be conducted to ascertain the home will be the best possible for the dog.  If a potential match is found, the AC contacts the Foster Home caring for that particular dog and supplies them with the name and phone number of the potential adopter for the purpose of setting up an initial meeting at the convenience of the Foster Home volunteer.

3)  Foster Home Coordinator (FC) contacts all foster homes to assess progress of the rescue dogs; provides assistance and guidance to the foster home in caring for the dog; maintains contact with the Intake Coordinator and Adoption Coordinator; Recruits new foster homes through flyers, posters, newsletters, classified ads, and pet oriented businesses.

4) Volunteer Coordinator (VC) contacts persons who have volunteered to help Southwest Dalmatian Rescue and determines what their particular interest is; refers the volunteer to the appropriate Coordinator or other member.

 5) Publications Coordinator (PC) composes, edits and publishes a newsletter to be sent to members on a quarterly basis.  Can be combined with the Media Coordinator position.

6) Store Coordinator (SC) Contacts local pet stores (Petco and PetSmart being the most common) to see if they allow us to set up Adoption Faires and act as a liaison with the stores once events have been established.  The SC will also schedule volunteers to be at a certain store at a certain time as well as have all pertinent literature available.

7) Media Coordinator (MC) Gains vital public exposure for DNDCR by informing local TV, radio stations and newspapers of special events as well as submit classified ads to newspapers here in Arizona.

8) Fundraising Coordinator (FC) Oversees, evaluates and proposes fundraising events that will help DNDCR to solicit much-needed funds. Works with Treasurer.

 Other positions may be added in the future, but for right now this is it. Experience with dogs is a big plus, and would be very welcomed.  If you are sincerely interested in dogs and wish to learn more through rescue thats welcomed as well.  Unfortunately, due to liability issues you must be at least 16 years old to volunteer. If you are between the ages of 12-15 a parent must accompany you.
